The common consensus from Pundits, Journalists and other counties is that Kilkenny were finally finished because of the retirements this year.
Kilkenny have had to deal with big name retirements and lads dropping off the panel for one reason or another in the past few years.
The likes of Eddie Brennan, Martin Comerford, Noel Hickey, Cha Fitz, Mick Kavanagh, John Tennyson, Derek Lyng, John Dalton
.
Pre 2006 you had the likes of DJ, Peter Barry, Charlie Carter, Philly Larkin, Brian Mcevoy that dropped off the panel and Kilkenny were set for a transitional period that never happened since they went on to win 4 All Ireland titles in a row and 7 in total from 2006 and 2014.
Now with JJ Delaney, Tommy Walsh, Brian Hogan, Aidan Fogarty, David Herity Leaving the last of that great era have now gone.
Ok players like that will never come along again for Kilkenny unfortunately, But the point is there're still very talented hurlers coming through in Kilkenny, Evidence in a fantastic Minor winning team in 2014 and the fact is that Kilkenny's starting 15 in last years final the average age of the team was lower than Tipps.
Paul Murphy, A 3 time All star is still young, as is Cillian Buckley, Kieran Joyce, Conor Fogarty, TJ Reid, Richie Hogan, Colin Fennelly, Walter Walsh, Padraig Walsh, John Power.
With the very strong Tradition, Hurling been the absolute number sport in the county, That winning mentality, Success in all grades, Great underage structure with the County, Clubs and Colleges...Kilkenny will always be there or there a bouts the business end of the championship. You can never write off The Cats if you do you do at your peril.
